Inflation data on the euro area
Preliminary data on inflation in the Eurozone did not meet expectations, thereby exerting additional pressure on the single currency.
- The basic index of consumer prices on an annualized basis keeps growth at the level of 0.9%, while analysts expected growth at the level of 1.0%.
- The consumer price index in November also fell short of expectations, showing on an annualized basis growth of 1.5%, against expectations of analysts at 1.6%.
- In turn, the deterrent of a stronger decline is the reduction in the unemployment rate in the Eurozone to a level of 8.8%, against the previous value of 8.9%.
