On Monday, January 7, the day is full of data for the Eurozone and the USA.

  • At 09:00 – data for Germany will be released: German factory orders and German retail sales.
  • At 12:00 – retail sales (m/m) (November) in the eurozone.
  • At 17:00 – a block of news for the USA will be released: shipments of nondefense capital goods (excluding aircraft) (m/m), factory orders (m/m) (November), ISM non-manufacturing employment index (December ) and ISM non-manufacturing business index (PMI) (December).
  • Also at 17:00 – Ivey Business PMI (PMI)  (December) in Canada.

On Tuesday, January 8, a small amount of news about the USA will be released.

  • At 02:30 – trade balance (November) of Australia will be released.
  • At 08:45 – the unemployment rate in Switzerland seasonally adjusted (December).
  • At 09:00 – German industrial production will be released (m/m) (November).
  • At 15:30 – data on the US trade balance will be released: export volume, import volume and trade balance (November).
  • Also at 15:30 – trade balance (November) of Canada will be released.
  • At 17:00 – JOLTS job openings in November will be published in the USA.

On Wednesday, January 9, you should pay attention to the results of the meeting of the Bank of Canada and the US Federal Reserve.

  • At 02:30  – construction permits will be announced (m/m) (November) in Australia.
  • At 09:00 – trade balance in Germany will be published (November).
  • At 09:30 – consumer price index (CPI) of Switzerland (m/m) (December) will be released.
  • At 12:00 – the unemployment rate (November) in the eurozone.
  • At 15:15 – housing start (December) in Canada will be released.
  • At 17:00 – the publication of the Bank of Canada’s monetary policy report, the accompanying statement of the Bank of Canada and the interest rate decision will take place.
  • At 17:15 – BoC press conference will be held.
  • At 17:30 – US crude oil inventories will be released.
  • At 21:00 – FOMC meeting minutes will be published.

On Thursday, January 10, market attention will be focused on inflation data in China and the results of the ECB meeting.

  • At 3:30 –  inflation data in China will be released: consumer price index (CPI) (m/m) (December), consumer price index (CPI) (y/y) (December), producer price index (y/y) (December)
  • At 08:45 – the unemployment rate in Switzerland will be published non-seasonally adjusted (December).
  • At 14:30 – the ECB  monetary policy meeting minutes will be published.
  • At 15:30 – the data will be released: initial jobless claims in the US, construction permits (m/m) (November) in Canada and new housing price index  (m/m) (November) in Canada.

On Friday, January 11, the data on Japan, UK GDP and inflation in the United States will close the week  .

  • At 01:30 – data for Japan will be released: Household Spending (m/m) (November), Household Spending (y/y) (November), adjusted current account  and current account non-seasonally adjusted (November).
  • At 02:30 – retail sales (m/m) (November) in Australia.
  • At 11:30 – data on UK GDP will be released: GDP (m/m), industrial production (m/m) (November), manufacturing production (m/m) (November), monthly GDP change 3m/3m, trade balance (November) and trade balance excluding EU countries (November).
  • At 15:30 – US Inflation Report will be published: core consumer price index (CPI) (y/y) (December), core consumer price index (CPI) (m/m) (December) and consumer price index (CPI) (m/m) (December).
  • At 20:00 – number of oil drilling rigs in the United States from Baker Hughes (U.S. Baker Hughes Total Rig Count).
