Market Focus
On Wednesday, February 14, 2018, attention should be paid to the US economic calendar, namely, data on the consumer price index and retail sales. The consumer price index measures changes in the price of goods and services, with the exception of food and energy from the point of view of the consumer. This is the key way to measure changes in the buying and inflation trends in the US.
- Analysts predict that the growth of the base CPI in January will be 0.1%, which is lower than the previous value at the level of 0.3%. On an annualized basis, the growth rate remains at 1.8%.
- The consumer index will keep growing at the level of 0.1%. On an annualized basis, the growth of the indicator will slow to 1.9%, against the previous value of 2.1%.
- The volume of retail sales in January will show growth at the level of 0.1%, which is lower than the December value at the level of 0.4%.
In case of data release within the forecast, the US dollar will be under pressure, against the background of which one should expect the US dollar to fall within 40 points against its competitors.
