According to forecasts of most analysts, the European Central Bank, as a result of its meeting, will keep the interest rate unchanged when its monetary policy decision is announced at 14:45 on Thursday.
45 minutes after the announcement of the European Central Bank’s decision on the interest rate ECB President Mario Draghi will hold a press conference that will attract the attention of market players. Investors are interested in when the ECB plans to complete its € 2.5 trillion financial incentive program.
Recently, forecasts about the curtailment of the quantitative easing program have strengthened. Market players suggest that ECB officials can take a small step toward winding down the financial stimulus program. As a result of its March meeting, the European Central Bank in its statement declined its traditional phrase on the possibility of expanding the volume of redemption of bonds.
However, some experts suggest that such a step will be imprudent, given the signs of weaker economic data and escalation in disputes over international trade.
Economists were concerned about the recent decline in overall and core inflation in the euro area. Therefore, they assume that the ECB will take steps to complete the asset repurchase program not earlier than July.
In October 2017, the ECB reduced the volume of the monthly repurchase of bonds from € 60 billion to € 30 billion, but extended the program of financial incentives until the end of September 2018 due to a weak increase in inflation. (Investing.com)
